I am a new nurse and I have a neighbor who thinks she is a CNA, but is not and has never been certified with any state board. She works in assisted living that is run out of someone’s home (who she says is an RN), and she tells me that her supervisor allows her to give medications to some of the residents. I don’t like the way it sounds, but I would only be going off of what my neighbor has told me. What to do?

As a nurses, we have a responsibility to the welfare of our patients. As I see it, ALL people are our patients, even if they are not directly in our care. I would investigate her story for myself. Believe 1% of what you hear and 99% of what you see. It would really be a crime in your heart if this person hurts a patient that she is supposed to be careing for. You already know what is right. Good luck.
