Guess Where We Are Going Next?

Is Is Safe For A Pregnant Rn To Care For A Patient Receiving Oral Chemo? My 1st Ob Appt Is Not Till Next Week.

I’m a newly pregnant RN who works acute care. I took care of a patient receiving oral hydroxyurea tonight at work. The oncology RN gave him his pm chemo med (he gets it BID). I never touched the med. Per universal precautions, I of course wore gloves when changing his linen, emptying commodes, etc. But these were regular latex gloves, not chemo gloves. I plan to talk to my OB next week at my 1st appt about workplace risks. I never thought of chemo risks before until tonight. Do you think I have anything to worry about in having cared for this patient? I didn’t even think about it until I got home. Normally, I would not worry but being pregnant and in the 1st trimester I worry about teratogens. Any chemo/oncology RNs out there who can reassure me that this one night of care probably didn’t do harm?! I am freaking out a little now that I am home and mulling it over. Thanks!
