Shop around at some of the cheaper stores in your area as they tend to have shoes that do not have leather. Target, Walmart, Payless, K-Mart, that sort of place.
Not that you couldn’t get some good quality shoes with great arch support that have no animal products. My New Balance shoes have no leather at all and give me great support, something that your going to need standing on your feet. I got mine on sale at just under $50.
Just start reading labels….. a real pain, but the only real solution unless you want to go to the online stores that charge way too much for what you get in ‘vegan’ shoes.

How Do You Get Across To Nursing Student That Math Is So Important To Know?

Math errors in nursing result in medication errors, as this is generally the only area in wich you use more than the most basic math (calculating dosages, medications based on body-mass-indexes, etc). Look up some of the legal implications of medication errors… prison sentences dues to negligence. Regardless of anything the doctor prescribed or the pharmacy provided, giving the WRONG med or the WRONG dosage lays solely on the shoulders of the nurse who administered it. You really need to know how to calculate and convert different measurement systems as well as figure out IV flow rates, etc. Also very important for monitoring intake and output….

Yesterday I went to the doctor and I had to have some blood work done. But when the nurse stuck the needle into my arm she did not get any blood at all to come out (lol) She tried moving the needle over and still nothing. She tapped on my skin and she couldnt seem to get any blood. She tried the other arm and still nothing. My friend had told me that I need more water but I dont know if that is true. So does anyone know the real answer to this problem?
I know I should have asked my doctor but he went on lunch break before I could so can anyone answer this?

I am in the same boat and in the same situation. I start an LPN program in September. Contact financial aid at the school they should have some grants there. I live in the FL and we have some statewide grants that I learned about through financial aid. I don’t qualify for Pell because I have a bachelors in another field but some grants are income based that I did qualify for. Down here in FL we have a “women’s resource center” that offers scholarships that is if you’re female. There’s a place called “jobs etc” that also offers grants but I don’t know if that is just a FL thing. Lastly try www.fastweb.com for scholarships and grants

Anyone Know Why A Nurse’s Uniform Is Commonly Called A “scrub”?

Just out of curiousity. During visits to the doctor and while waiting in the lobby, more often than not you have nurses who are chatterboxes. I’ve heard them refer to their uniforms as “scrubs” when complimenting on the cute little patterns or designs on their clothing. I’ve seen it on TV, too, while watching drama shows like E.R. or Grey’s Anatomy. So…why?
