Should I Have To Enjoy Math And Science Class Before I Consider Going Into Nursing?

I’ve always seemed to struggle with math and I wonder if that’s going to really effect me if I take classes aimed at nursing. Sometimes I think I may not be able to pass what’s going to be thrown at me if I decide to go into nursing

  1. For most ADN programs, you don’t need anything more than 8th grade math. You’ll be figuring dosages on medications . . . . Like micrograms per kilogram per minute . . . figure that in milliliters/hour if you’re given milligrams per milliliter. That’s as hard as it gets.
For BSN programs, you will need College Algebra and Statistics. No Calculus, no Trig.
As for science, you have to make it through some basic – Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology for ADN. Add General Chemistry and Biology for BSN.

  2. Only part of it!
Dirty diapers, human feces and urine, 300+ lbs patients, dealing with 10 different problems in the same time without having any problems to carry out all the solutions to all those problems.
Anyhow, if you are talking about school, you have to be good at figures and you have to be able to learn it quick. Most schools do not allow you to fail the same subjects twice or they will “kick” you out for good.

So far, the only math I’ve had to worry about is dosage calculations. We don’t have to take any math in my LPN program.
    Best of luck.
