Jill is right on the money. I would add that you could get a BSN in 4 yrs. I would also suggest talking to your HS counselor about programs in your area. Apply to at least 3 and then find out about waiting lists. You should also ask about pass/fail rates on NCLEX. That is a good indication of how good the program is.
You can be an RN with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree, which is a two year program, but usually most people need pre-requisites in a few science courses (biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, etc.) so it might take 3 years in all.
You need to be patient, non-judgmental, able to think critically and creatively problem solve, be assertive, able to communicate well (especially be a good listener).
