I think the answer to this is yes, but it may depend upon the state. I have been in schools where the school nurse has taught health classes. I’m not sure about regular science classes. There is so much more involved with certification requirements and the Praxis exam.
Most likely they would teach Biology. Most Health teachers are also PE teachers and coaches. All the classes that you took to be an RN (chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology) are the “endorsement ” requirements for 7th-12th grade Biological Sciences. Also, there are way more jobs for Biology Teachers than Health teachers.
As long as you have a teacher’s certificate in the field you will be teaching. You will also have to be highly qualified in your area as well.
When you get the requirements to teach you will have to major and minor in a certifiable area. Nursing is not an option. You may choose something like biology or health, for example. Whatever areas you major and minor in, you will be able to teach.
I teach at an alternative ed school. One of the vocational programs we have offered, in addition to shop, auto mechanics, etc., was an introductory program for students who wanted to enter a health care profession. The woman who taught the course was an RN, and the students learned ethics, medical terms, record keeping, and also visited job locations in various medical facilities.
I believe they can. But you would need to get all the requirements before you could teach and it also depends if you want to teach at a Catholic/Public/Private school! I’m not sure if you need to take any courses? I would look into it now for next school year!
