I am applying for a NURSING AF ROTC scholarship, HELP!!?

Hi! I’m currently a junior in high school and I am extremely interested in the Air Force ROTC program. I am applying to nursing schools only and I have read on the AFROTC website that the nursing scholarships are non competitive as long as the requirements are met. Although the web was clear in someways, it was confusing in others… sooo

a) If I am applying for a nursing scholarship, do I have to meet the same physical requirements as others?
b) When should I begin applying?
c) Can they use my SAT scores instead of me taking their own aptitude test?
d) How do I apply?
e) Should I talk to my guidance counselor? (I’m afraid she won’t know anything)

I have other questions but I keep forgetting them. So just any other additional information you have on the Nursing AFROTC scholarship.
AIR FORCE ROTC, i’m interested in the AFROTC program only, no other scholarships. I’m looking for more information on this specific one

Criteria is different for all scholarships. Some are grade/GPA based, some are not. The criteria is endless. It could be offered to someone who is left-handed. The are reputable websites you can use as sources, library books full of scholarship info. Parents of certain companies often offer scholarships to their children/ family members. Some fast food places offer scholarships to teen and adult employees.
Definately talk to your counselor, she/he will be able to point you in other directions. You can also call/write colleges, hospitals, and other medical related corperations and organizations. These are just a few ideas-Good Luck!

I am a male in nursing school. I got an email for a female only scholarship. How does this promote diversity

Only 14 people in my class do not qualify for this scholarship. Approx. 87% of the school is female. Is this discrimination?

Why is nursing scholarship taxed so greatly?

My girlfriend recently received a nursing scholarship in exchange for an employment agreement to work for a hospital for a year after she graduates. I understand that the scholarship must be taxed, because it is received in return for her services rendered — i.e. employment agreement with the hospital. The scholarship money has been heavily taxed before she received it in her bank account. (she paid about 1/3 of scholarship in tax!) It seems to me that she could treat the scholarship as income and possible write it off on her taxes at the end of the year. Being a full-time student, her income bracket is not in the 33% range. Why is this money taxed so greatly and why can she not include the tax in her income and handle it on her income tax?

Income is taxed when you work to earn it, and when you do your tax forms any overpayment is refunded to you. This year, if her income bracket is not at 33% she might get a big income tax return refund.

Stay away from loans as much as you can. You have no idea how burdensome it is to pay them back once you leave school.

There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $ 400, $ 500 or $ 1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it’s chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $ 500 scholarships and it’ll really make a dent in your tuition bill.

People make the mistake of looking for one big scholarship to pay for everything when they should be targeting smaller scholarships that are more regionalized or specialized to their intended field or reflect something unique about them (son of Italian policeman, daughter of registered nurse, etc). Everybody goes for the big scholarships, the competition for those is much higher and your chances are smaller of getting it. Research and apply for anything and everything you are close to being eligible for no matter how small the scholarship.

Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local Chamber of Commerce/Rotary/ Lion’s Club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria “hispanic women aviation scholarships” etc.

Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!
