Many community colleges have an AAS in registered nursing. It is much cheaper and faster than going to a university. And if you do choose to go back to a university, you will already have the experience and many schools have accelerated Associates to BSN programs that employers are willing to pay for. Check with you local community college or junior college. i live in North Texas and we have at least 2 community colleges, 1 junior college and many universities that have good nursing programs. No matter what school you decide to go to, many hospitals will pay about 60%-100% of student loans back if you sign a 1 or 2 year commitment. Good Luck and God Bless!!

There is NO STATE in the USA that requires a Bachelor Degree of nursing to become an RN. Absolutely none.
South Dakota made a very lame attempt to making it a requirement, and it lasted about 6 months.
Depending on the state you are in, you need to check with your state board of nursing and see what the educational requirement are. Some states require a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science to apply for the state boards of nursing. In my state, as in many, you are only required to have an Associates Degree in Applied Science (Nursing). If this is the case for you, you can get your education via your local community college. If you have to have a BSN, you can usually go to a community college the first 2 years, and transfer to a BSN degree ( even on-line degrees). Check with your community college. Nursing is a great job!!
