There are lots of good presents for graduating nurses…a gift certificate to a uniform shop (so he or she can pick out their scrubs), a water resistant watch with a second hand always comes in handy, some of those crocs shoes (my friends swear by them! Personally i use Danskas for work.) You have no idea how much a good pair of shoes facilitates being on your feet, pounding the hallways! A day trip to a spa (to recover from all those stressful hours spent studying). I found out after 10 years on the job that a nurses bag to carry my stuff (stethoscope, pens, spare scrubs) was invaluable to me. A NCLEX study guide for state boards (graduating from school is just the beginning, now he or she has to sit for the boards…like a final exam on all the subjects that you studied in school all in one test!! Talk about stress!). A gift certificate to a nice place to eat…with nursing school being so expensive, chances are he or she didn’t get to eat out much. Thats a start maybe someone else can come up with more.

How hard is nursing school? Is it very competitive to get in?

I have been thinking of becoming a nurse. How hard is the curriculum of nursing school/what does it consist of? (I’ve heard its very consuming and difficult) Is getting into a nursing school very competitive? I’ve been out of school for awhile. My daughter is 15 and has Cystic Fibrosis and heart problems she was born with and requires a lot of medical care at times, so I’ve learned a lot taking care of her and I think I would be a good nurse.

The difficulty of nursing depends on the person, but most people I’ve talked to find it intense. Though major colleges offer nursing programs, there are also some community colleges that offer nursing programs. The community college in our area has affliations with a couple different hospitals. There is a lot of opportunity in nursing so I would recommend looking into it.

Best of luck to you

Taking the NCLEX-RN in 2 weeks and i was wondering how i should feel?

I am taking the NCLEX-RN in 2 weeks. I have taken the Kaplan 4 week review and study course and dont practice tests online. Every time i take a practice test i barely pass or barely fail… like on the boarder. I am afraid this means i will fail the real exam. Anyone out there with help on this who has taken it within the last month or few months? should i be nervous?

Yes. You can go to the local fire department or ambulance and ask to do a ride-along. That’s where I started and I loved it. I was and EMT/firefighter for many years before I started having kids. It was exciting!
